Hatfield House

Hatfield House

The children's playground at Hatfield House is unique and inspiring. The centrepiece is a copy of the Renaissance style house itself, and is over 10 metres (33 feet) long.

Built in a former quarry known by their lordships as "The Bloody Hollow", there were considerable problems to surmount with steep banks and falls of up to 10 metres - which were overcome with rope bridges, decks and rope climbs.

Designed for 3-15 year old children, the play area fits sympathetically into the old chalk quarry which has been fully landscaped. Hatfield House is painted and distressed, giving an air of stately weathering and dignified age - and is surrounded by a varied range of untreated heavy Oak structures which will grey down to give a mellow rural adventure play setting.

In a sensitive area, where the character of the environs of an important building needs to be preserved, our designs offer huge scope for taste and individuality.
