Little Kings Holiday Park is a family run holiday park in Pembrokeshire that caters for families and looks out to the sea of south-west Wales. Accordingly, they asked us to create an indoor play area for young children that follows a beach theme.
The indoor play area was to be located within a specific indoor area of a new games room, giving a limit on the space we could use, but we packed in lots of design ideas and came up with a design that featured beach huts, a light house, a rope bridge, various nautical props, and a VW camper – it is a camping holiday park after all! We included a beach effect rubber chip fall surface, complete with sea life to complete the play area.
As this play area is aimed at younger children, we included a gentle ramp with a hand rail that allows safe access to the upper level and the balance beam bridge has netted sides to prevent falls. To keep more adventurous children entertained, there are multiple access routes to the upper level that offer more of a physical challenge, including two different types of ladder and a climb wall.
A Play Area To Delight
The finished play area is very much in keeping with the plans and the combination of its quaint appearance and summery colours have made it popular with children and parents who visit the site. This project is a good example of how we can pack lots of play potential into a limited space, creating an engaging and appealing environment for young children despite space limitations.
Once the design for Little Kings Indoor Play Area had been finalised, we constructed the whole play area at our workshop in Norfolk, working to the size of the space we had available for us on site. We then painted the whole creation and transported it in pieces to the final site where we reassembled everything, fixed it in place, and applied the final touches.
The ‘Concept to Manufacture’ image gives more information about the brief and the design, and how we brought it to life. You can find out more about our design process on our designs page, where we also explain the design process with other play areas.
If you are looking to commission your own play area, use this creation as inspiration and please get in contact with us to discuss what you are looking for. We can adhere to strict requirements or create something completely from scratch, no matter what space you have available – you are limited only by your own imagination.
