Chestnut Wood Adventure Play Area

Chestnut Wood Adventure Play Area is a rustic outdoor play area that we built for Knockhatch Adventure Park in Hailsham. The aim was to make an engaging play area that fit into the natural surroundings.

We designed and built a play area that features several interconnected towers, all made from hand stripped sweet chestnut. The play area incorporates several different pieces of rope climbing apparatus, once again fitting with the natural theme, and all climb features have been made safe for children either by the use of split log sweet chestnut barriers or mesh netting that prevents falls. Most of the play area can be accessed by ramps, making it suitable for younger and less physically able individuals. The area was completed by spreading chipped bark as a fall surface, once again adhering to the natural appearance of the play area.

A Collection Of Play Towers

Multiplay towers – towers that incorporate multiple pieces of play apparatus – are something that we have long incorporated into our play area designs. We even built stand alone multiplay towers themed on castles amongst other things! In keeping with the natural setting of this play area, all multi play towers at Knockhatch were constructed from sweet chestnut and incorporate multiple pieces of play apparatus that link them to other parts of the play area.

Other Play Area Features

As we were building a natural play area, we even built one of the platforms around a tree, making it part of the play area. Next to the play area we built a covered picnic area, allowing parents (and children) a place to rest so that families can enjoy the play area for extended periods. And all through the play area we included standalone features such as swings and balance beams.

Knockhatch Play Area PlansThe Design Process

All of our play areas begin with a simple call or email where we establish what our client is looking for. Once we have some guidelines, we visit the site and then work tirelessly to come up with their dream creation.

After talking through what Knockhatch Adventure Park had envisioned for this play area, we came up with a few sketches before moving onto computer renders and here you can see the finalised plans of the play area.

You can see more of our plans and on our play area design page.
