Custom-Made Children’s Playhouses & Wendy Houses
Every young child loves to pretend being a grown-up and what better place to play house than in their own playhouse? Flights of Fantasy create custom made, luxury playhouses and Wendy houses to excite and inspire. Whether they are preparing a fantasy banquet in the kitchen or playing at mummies and daddies, the world of make believe comes to life in our elegant children’s playhouses that can be passed from one generation to the next. For the most incredible and enchanting gift imaginable, a playhouse by Flights of Fantasy is a lasting family treasure. Flights of Fantasy itself was born from a children’s playhouse when Russell Bowlby, the founder of the company, hand made the first Tudor Playhouse for the eldest of his four sons, enjoyed by each of his following children.

Hand Crafted To Your Specification
If you can dream it, we can build it. We have built both one and two storey Wendy houses and can incorporate any style to any size. If you live in a rural woodland area, surrounded by nature, an old world fantasy cottage might be the perfect addition to your fairytale setting. If you live in a castle, why not have a miniature, castle-themed playhouse in the garden for the children? Whatever ideas you or your children may have, we endeavour to work hard and bring your ideas to life. Our past creations are testament to this.

Award Winning Designs
Whilst we take great pleasure in bringing our designs to life, one of our greatest pleasures is sharing them with others who love them as much as we do. Over the years we have had received lots of very kind feedback and picked up several design awards. One that will always stand out is when we took the original Tudor House to RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) Chelsea Flower show and received an award for our stand. This was an incredibly proud moment, particularly because the playhouse was nearly two decades old at the time we took it to the show, showing how durable and long lasting our creations are. You can read more about the Tudor House design here.
True-To-Life Replica Landmarks
We love having a theme to follow with our creations and because everything we construct is custom made, we can recreate famous landmarks or buildings, and even replicate your home in small scale – something we’re asked to do very often. When we make a replica playhouse, our aim is not to make an exact clone, but to create an engaging piece of play apparatus that captures the features of the main structure so that it is recognisable to our clients. Below is a small selection of our miniature-replica themed playhouses along with the original structures, but you can also look at our replica landmark page and our play trains page, where each piece of play apparatus is based upon a real, larger structure.
Construction And Detail
Each playhouse that we design and build is designed to last a lifetime with appropriate maintenance. The fact that we used the original Tudor House at the Chelsea Flower Show almost two decades after it was built is an excellent example of this. Detail is everything and nothing is too much to ask. We can include include fully functioning windows and tiled roofing, install full interiors that include a fully fitted kitchen (with working taps and cooking facilities), add heating and insulation, and even create your own custom built furniture.
Enjoyed All Year Round
Because our wooden playhouses can be customised to have lighting, insulation, and heating, the quality is far superior to that of other playhouse companies. Cool in the summer and warm in the winter, our playhouses can be used year round. You can kit out your playhouse to be as comfortable and hardy as your house and we have installed playhouses in areas of extreme weather, including the Swiss Alps where temperatures are sub-zero for multiple months of the year and everything is covered in snow.
30 Years: Standing Up To The Test Of Time
We pride ourselves on making high quality, durable play equipment that stands up to the test of time. As the original Tudor House was our first ever creation, there is no better way to do this than to look at this playhouse and see how it has fared. The first photo, below, was taken when the playhouse was around fifteen years old. It had been sitting at the bottom of the garden, with almost no maintenance, for all of this time. As you can see, lichen has started to grow on the paint and the roof shows sign of age, but structurally it was sound. The second photo (where the playhouse looks like new) was actually taken around a decade later, when the playhouse was nearly thirty years old. We spent a couple of days touching it up for aesthetics, resulting in a playhouse that was like new. We are extremely proud of this and make all of our products to the same, high quality.
Delivery And Maintenance
Your playhouse can be built to any style, size, and specification that you wish. We construct our playhouses at our workshop in the UK, then carefully ship them across the world to your home or business. We prefer to ship and install them ourself, but in certain situations, such as when large distances are involved, we will use a carrier. Once installed, we provide a maintenance program to ensure that your wooden playhouse will always look as fantastic as it did on the day when it was first installed. With correct maintenance, the playhouses that we make will last a lifetime and be passed from one generation to the next.
If you move home, we offer a re-location service in which we collect the playhouse and install it in its new location so that your children can continue to enjoy it in the future. We also offer smaller aftercare services such as re-positioning and re-decorating. Often we will redecorate a playhouse during a relocation, allowing us to work in the most efficient way. Should you ever decide to sell your playhouse, we can assist you to do so by advertising, transporting, and re-installing it elsewhere.
Locating Your Playhouse
People often ask us if it is possible to get their playhouse into a tight space. It’s not always easy, but yes, we can normally find a way to get it where you want it to be. Take a look at that crazy looking picture of the Tudor House on a huge scaffold ramp, being taken into a back garden… that’s the sort of obstacle we face when trying to locate playhouses. We like the challenge (mostly when it’s over and people say ‘How on Earth did you get that there?!’). Moat Playhouse is another good example of playhouse where we had great obstacles to overcome when trying to position it, having to take the playhouse across a bridge that was only a couple of inches wider than the playhouse itself, using a combination of rollers, pallet trucks, man power, and ingenuity.
Imagine the look of delight on your children’s faces as they discover what lies within their wonderful new playhouse: A fully fitted kitchen, feature fire place, an ornate staircase crafted from solid oak, dining table and chairs, folding beds or bunk beds, a built in television, and handmade curtains. These luxury playhouses really are a home from home that your children will never want to leave. Whatever customisations you want in your playhouse can be realised by our bespoke design services and years of experience. Below you will see some examples of our interiors.
Let your imagination run into overdrive when considering the features for your bespoke playhouse or get your kids involved in helping with ideas for designs. How about a porch with wooden benches and chairs? Or winding stairways and a choice of exits to create intriguing hidden hideaways? We can even build French doors to allow more light into the playhouse. A wooden balcony or veranda can be built into the upper level to give children more space to play or why not add towers and turrets for a more fairy tale style playhouse?
Any customisation, inside or out, is possible, so please don’t be afraid to try something new. As craftsmen with decades of experience, we can incorporate any feature into, or outside of, your playhouse. Please take a look at our past creations for more inspiration.
All our playhouses are made from traditional hardwood materials that are built to last, such as FSC® European oak, FSC® Latvian plywood, FSC® redwood pine, FSC® whitewood pine, and FSC® cedar. All playhouse timber is sourced from sustainable and managed forests.
There is no limit to the play equipment that can be included. Memories really are made from wondrous play accessories built into your bespoke garden playhouse and we can work with you on any ideas you might have.
The possibilities really are endless, but please take a look at our play equipment portfolio as any piece can be incorporated into your design.
Ordering Your Playhouse
We want ordering one of our playhouses to be as enjoyable and exciting as the playhouse itself.
Planning, design, and installation are all part of the service that we offer. Typically the process works in the following way:
Tell us a little about what you might like, and any ideas or thoughts you might already have. Russell, our founder and designer, will then be in touch to talk about your idea and arrange a personal visit, where necessary.
You’ll receive a drawn plan, written proposal, and a fixed price quote for the project, along with any recommendations for design and materials. This is when we will finalise the design and tailor it perfectly to your needs.
When you are happy with the proposal, construction begins. While we make your playhouse we’ll send you pictures and updates in advance of when we deliver and install it, keeping you in the loop throughout the design process.
We like to think of our playhouses as family heirlooms and due to their durable construction, they’ll last many decades with the correct care. We provide a complete handover package and we’re always available to talk to you about maintenance or answer any questions you might have about looking after your new playhouse.
As families grow and change, so too can your playhouse, and we can make alterations to keep up with your needs, whether by modification or intelligent design at the planning stage. We can also make minor changes, such as redecorating and repositioning or re-location should you move home. We also offer a re-sale service so that should you ever wish to sell your playhouse, we can help find a buyer and handle the relocation completely. It couldn’t be easier.
