Flights of Fantasy Helps Georgie Nye Get The Bed Of His Dreams
Before Christmas, we were told about Georgie Nye, a young boy from Essex with a neuromuscular condition who had been promised a Mini Cooper themed bed. When he was let down on that promise, Flights of Fantasy helped to make it possible again.
Georgie has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, which affects as many as 2500 boys in the UK. As part of adaptions to his home, Georgie had picked a Mini Cooper themed bed from a local company who then couldn’t deliver on this promise. With Georgie heartbroken, a concerned resident reached out to us instead and asked if we could make the bed at a discount, so that together they could raise enough to see that Georgie didn’t miss out. How could we ever say no?
Peter Bailey, a former craftsman of ours, now retired, took the time to work on the bed personally. With a lifetime of experience it was a pleasure to see him in our workshop again working on such a heartfelt project. The bed itself includes two drawers, a reading light, mirrors and a steering wheel. Finished in Red and with a customised number plate, we wanted it to be the bed he always wanted.
…The bed is amazing! Thank you all so much.
Georgie’s parents, TJ and Barry Nye, have been fund raising to support the research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy since 2011 and, since then, have been able to raise over £30k for this cause.
They have also been raising funds to adapt their home for Georgie’s future, so that he will have the equipment he needs to get around his house easily.
