The Westmorland Family Group has been operating the UK’s only family run motorway service centres for decades and, as part of a redevelopment at both their southern and northern Gloucester service stations on the M5, Flights of Fantasy were asked to create outdoor play areas for both sites. Rather than making two identical play areas, we decided to create two unique play areas. One features a maze for children to explore whilst the other features a bird nest and climbing apparatus. Both are very natural play areas and as you can see from the photos, weather down over time to subtle colours that blend nicely with the natural surroundings.
A Complete Transformation
We love to look at before and after photos to see how a play area can be transformed. Compare the photos of the finished play areas to the pre-build site photo and workshop construction photo below.
Several Years On
After several years of the play areas being exposed to the elements, we returned to see how they were looking. This is what we found.
Gloucester Services Indoor Play Areas
In addition to making two outdoor play areas at the two sites, we also made two indoor play areas, offering children fun during summer and winter months. You can read more about the Gloucester Services Indoor Play Areas here.
